Description of this data issue:
While meeting with the Academic Advising Directors today they brought up an issue that might be appropriate for Data Governance consideration.We have electronic transcripts transfer from CSN which often do not migrate successfully to UNLV, they get lost.The Advisors indicate this difficulty imposes hardships on the students when they must either resubmit or even physically deliver a transcript to the Registrar office here at UNLV.
The problem occurs because the student submits a request for transcript using their CSN student ID, NOT their Social Security number. When the requests hit the system using the wrong number the transcript is not output to our system because no matching number is found.
One consideration which is allied to this is that NSHE talked through plans to implement a unique Universal person ID independent of campus.
The Advising Directors cite many instances where the electronic transfer courses were critically needed to fulfill curriculum at the last minute to certify graduation. The impact is to postpone a student graduation when the electronic transfer fails and the course doesn't arrive in time to post is for graduation.
