The focus of this meeting was a discussion with data stewards of your request to have data user groups established. We reviewed the roles defined for the Data Users Groups
1. Provide a formal mechanism for communication among data users, data processors, and data managers.
2. Connect the data managers to ways in which the institution uses the data
Data Users Groups are to be established by the Data Stewards to assist them in communicating campus needs and priorities, and to identify data projects that need to be initiated. However, we discussed the fact that you are available as a resource to help them if necessary as the get these groups in place. Once user groups are identified, a process for including them in data governance should be established, which for some areas may include scheduled meetings while with others it could be based on the existence of proposed projects. Note: in some areas data users groups may already be established. Example SIS data user group. Data Stewards will nominate members of users groups by early January 2008.
Rick Storlie, Frank Lucas & Indika Jayasekera provided a preview of Data Governance use of the TMA system to manage data management projects Once ready for our use, the user list will be managed by Data Stewards and Executive Sponsors, the site will be accessible online and will provide a vehicle for you to review the progress of projects in your area. Our intention is to begin looking at a prototype that includes data management projects in early January.
