Discussion - Policies - What policies should be considered first?
Opened September 19. 2006, Closed October 13, 2006
September 19, 2006 - Are the three policies that have been proposed ( Access, Usage, Integrity) the ones that should considered first, should they be combined into one, is there another policy issue that should also be included? The first order of business is to address whether these are the right policies with the highest priority?

October 13, 2006 - e-Mail from Lynne Personius to Data Governance Executive Sponsors
Step one of the policy approval process - the question of whether we are considering the right policies with the highest priority - has been addressed. We are moving ahead to evaluate drafts of the following:
UNLV Data Access Policy - Provide appropriate access to data for employees while protecting data assets by assuring the proper use.
UNLV Data Usage Policy - Ensure that the data assets of the university are not misused.
Data Integrity and Integration - Ensure that university data has a high degree of integrity and that common elements have common definitions and values
Please review the content of each policy - does it contain language and provide the direction that reflects your view of data governance at UNLV?
Discussion - Roles - Are the draft roles as described appropriate?
Opened September 26, 2003
September 26, 2006 - Among the foundational efforts of the data governance initiative is a review of the structure and roles associated with data governance for UNLV. A proposal is on the table for you to look at and modify as you see fit. The first thing for you to decide is if the roles and the structure described meet your expectations.
October 19, 2006 - Points regarding roles raised for discussion in e-mail from Dawn Neuman
1. Overlap w/o clear lines of responsibility, could be confusing if not defined up front.
2. Dilution of authority, ie Can a Steward take action on policy violation without an administrator's involvement/agreement? (Conversely, when
does the steward send it up the chain to the exec group?)
3. Are we adding more layers to an already murky relationship with OIT and NSHE?
