Attachment C, Discussion of UNLV Data Administrators, and how to form that group where needed

A. Role as defined with Executive Sponsors ---
Data Administrators are individuals within the University, reporting to a Data Steward, who have an intricate understanding of the data within their functional area. Specific responsibilities include:

         1. Establish procedures for initial definition and change of data elements within their functional area
         2. Specify data viewing, copying or downloading procedures that are unique to a specific data repository or set of data elements. These procedures are intended to preserve data quality and minimize security risk.
         3. Provide access to data for users outside department by producing reports using standard tools.
         4. Ensure data quality by:
               1. Regularly evaluate the quality of the data.
               2. Assign and oversee data entry, data capture and maintenance to ensure data quality.
               3. Specifying data control and protection requirements to be observed by data processors and users.
               4. Generally monitor the data for accuracy, integrity, and dependability, and where appropriate, initiate action concerning these issues.

B. How to bring this organization together….
When executive sponsors appointed data stewards, they determined that the assignment of data administrators should remain less formal, in order to allow the data stewards to draw from the expertise of their data administrators as needed, and so that each unit had the flexibility to organize in a manner that worked best for them. .
